An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a numerical or alphanumeric identifier assigned to every device connected to a network. An iPhone, as soon as it connects to Wi-Fi, will have a unique IP address, as the network controls the services available for the device. Browsers and other online services also use the IP address to control the online service requested.
Finding the iPhone IP Address While on Wi-Fi
Locating your IP address while connected to a private or public Wi-Fi is pretty straightforward. Simply go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Information Icon
Once there, you’ll be presented with the basic information of your connection, including the IP Address:

Using IPAddress.com
Another method for finding your iPhone's IP address is through your browser. Simply go to IPAddress.com, and the website will automatically load with your IP address.
You may wonder how a browser immediately knows your IP address without any prompt. Every website you visit NEEDS to know your IP address. Before any interaction or transaction can proceed, the website needs to know your location to determine if it can provide the service you request.
This is also true for online services. For some region-specific platforms, the IP address is a huge factor in determining whether they can offer you their services or not. Streaming services use this specific information to determine which movies and TV series are available in your country.
A Note on Versions & Types of IP Addresses
An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is basically a unique identifier assigned to each device connected to a network. IP addresses allow devices to communicate with each other across the internet or within a local network.
There are two main versions of IP addresses: IPv4 and IPv6.
IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) uses a set of four numbers ranging from 0 to 255, separated by dots. (Example- 192.168.0.1)
IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) was introduced because of the limitations of IPv4. IPv6 uses 8 groups of 4 hexadecimal digits separated by colons. Here is an example: 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334. It allows for a vastly larger number of unique addresses.
There are two types of IP addresses in terms of connectivity: public and private IP addresses.
Public - A public IP address is assigned to your network by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) when you're at home, or by your mobile provider when using cellular data. This address is actually visible on the internet and is shared by all devices connected to your home Wi-Fi.
Private - A private IP address is assigned to each device within your local network by your router. These addresses are not available or visible on the internet. They are just used for internal communication between devices.
For example, when you're connected to your Wi-Fi at home, your phone, laptop, and printer may all share the same public IP address externally, but each will have a unique private IP address internally, something like 192.168.1.5 for your phone and 192.168.1.10 for your printer.
Conclusion
Finding your iPhone’s IP address is relatively simple. You can use your phone settings or a browser-based tool like www.IPAddress.com.
